To provide a process for preparing afatinib or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof having high purity and a stable industrially acceptable yield.SOLUTION: A process for preparing an afatinib free base includes a) treating an afatinib base with an organic solvent or a mixture thereof, b) adding water optionally and selectively, and c) isolating the afatinib free base, wherein the organic solvent is treated with an antioxidant.
