To provide various topical preparations that have excellent infrared protection effect, give a strong sense of heat shielding, and is excellent in spreadability to skin and smoothness when applied to the skin.SOLUTION: The present invention pertains to: [1] a topical skin preparation for infrared protection, topical skin preparation for heat shielding, topical skin preparation for photoaging inhibition, topical preparation for skin temperature rise inhibition, topical skin preparation for fatigue inhibition, and topical skin preparation for active oxygen production inhibition, containing a plate-form metal oxide (A) with a thickness of 30-360 nm; and [2] methods for protection of skin from infrared rays, heat shielding, photoaging inhibition, skin temperature rise inhibition, skin fatigue inhibition, and inhibition of active oxygen production in skin, including the application of [1] the topical preparation to the skin.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】赤外線防御効果に優れ、高い遮熱実感が得られるとともに、皮膚への塗り広げやすさ、皮膚に塗布した際の滑らかさも良好な各種外用剤を提供する。【解決手段】［１］厚さ３０ｎｍ以上３６０ｎｍ以下の板状金属酸化物（Ａ）を含有する赤外線防御用皮膚外用剤、遮熱用皮膚外用剤、光老化抑制用皮膚外用剤、皮膚温上昇抑制用外用剤、疲労抑制用皮膚外用剤、及び活性酸素産生抑制用皮膚外用剤、及び［２］前記［１］に記載の外用剤を皮膚に塗布する、皮膚の赤外線防御、遮熱、光老化抑制、皮膚温上昇抑制、皮膚の疲労抑制、又は皮膚中の活性酸素産生抑制を行う方法である。【選択図】なし
