Zusammenfassung:	To provide a method of reacting iodic acid to impart antibacterial and deodorant functions, and a material to which antibacterial and deodorant functions are imparted.SOLUTION: A method for imparting antibacterial/deodorant function comprises reacting an iodic acid compound with a material containing an element that can form a water-insoluble iodate and said iodate is free from biotoxicity, to form an iodate of the element on the surface layer of the material, and the iodate is supported in a manner to be able to be antibacterial and deodorant without elution to the outside.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】ヨウ素酸を反応させて抗菌・消臭機能を付与する方法、及び抗菌・消臭機能が付与された材料を提供する。【解決手段】抗菌・消臭機能の付与方法は、水に不溶性のヨウ素酸塩を生成可能な元素であって当該ヨウ素酸塩に生体毒性のない元素を含む材料に、ヨウ素酸化合物を反応させ、前記材料の表層に前記元素のヨウ素酸塩を生成することにより、前記ヨウ素酸塩が外部に溶出することなく抗菌及び消臭可能に前記ヨウ素酸塩を担持させる、ことを特徴とする。【選択図】図１
