To provide an imaging apparatus that detects a change in a subject to perform imaging, the imaging apparatus reducing power consumption while appropriately detecting the change in the subject.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus comprises: an imaging unit that has a pixel unit in which a plurality of pixels are arranged; and a control unit that switches between a first detection mode for dividing the pixel unit into a plurality of first division areas and detecting a subject based on a signal obtained by reducing the number of pixels for each of the first division areas, and a second detection mode for dividing the pixel unit into a plurality of second division areas different in size from the first division areas and detecting a subject based on a signal obtained by reducing the number of pixels for each of the second division areas.
