To provide a technology that can improve security in an image forming apparatus that diagnoses the state of a diagnosis object member by sound.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: sound collection means that receives at least a sound from a diagnosis object member and outputs a sound signal corresponding to the received sound; processing means that performs signal processing on the sound signal output by the sound collection means and outputs diagnosis data; and determination mans that determines the state of the diagnosis object member based on the diagnosis data.
