To realize the simplification of an apparatus configuration and to prevent the erroneous detection of foreign matter such as dust.SOLUTION: A coin recognizing device 10 includes a passage (transport path 11) through which a reading object 99 passes, a two-dimensional sensor (image sensor 21) for capturing an image of the passage and the reading object passing through the passage, and a discrimination unit cl1 for discriminating a type of the reading object. The two-dimensional sensor continuously captures the images of the passage.
