To provide a resin that has reverse wavelength dispersibility and expresses high orientation properties, an optical film obtained by using the same, and a diol compound and a diester compound used for the production of the resin.SOLUTION: A thermoplastic resin has a structural unit represented by formula (1). In formula (1), A1-A8 each independently show C or N, where at least one of them is N. R1-R8 each independently are H, an alkyl group, a heteroaryl group, etc. R9-R10 each independently are a direct bond or an optionally substituted alkylene group.
