Zusammenfassung:	To provide a liquid crystal composition satisfying at least one characteristic of characteristics such as a high maximum temperature, low minimum temperature, small viscosity, appropriate optical anisotropy, negatively large dielectric anisotropy, large specific resistance, high stability to light and high stability to heat or having an appropriate balance regarding to at least two characteristics, and an AM element comprising the above composition.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition contains at least one compound selected from compounds represented by a specific chemical structure as an additive X, and may contain a specific compound having negatively large dielectric anisotropy as a component A, a specific compound having a high maximum temperature or small viscosity as a component B, or a specific compound having a polymerizable group as an additive Y.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】高い上限温度、低い下限温度、小さな粘度、適切な光学異方性、負に大きな誘電率異方性、大きな比抵抗、光に対する高い安定性、熱に対する高い安定性のような特性において、少なくとも１つの特性を充足する、または少なくとも２つの特性に関して適切なバランスを有する液晶組成物、およびこの組成物を含むＡＭ素子を提供する。【解決手段】添加物Ｘとして特定化学構造で表される化合物から選択された少なくとも１つの化合物を含有し、成分Ａとして大きな負の誘電率異方性を有する特定の化合物、成分Ｂとして高い上限温度または小さな粘度を有する特定の化合物、または添加物Ｙとして重合性基を有する特定の化合物を含有してもよい液晶組成物。【選択図】なし
