To provide a medium processing unit, a control device, a control method, and a program, that hardly reduce convenience in handling cards having IC chips.SOLUTION: A medium processing unit comprises: a first processing unit, comprising an insertion section to which a medium including a card having an IC chip is inserted, a determination section for determining a type of the medium being inserted, a contact section being able to contact the IC chip, and an upward/downward direction driving mechanism for making the contact section movable in a vertical direction; and a conveyance mechanism for conveying the medium in a conveying direction heading to the first processing unit from the insertion section.
