To enable highly convenient character inputting operation by outputting conversion candidates with a plurality of evaluation criteria.SOLUTION: A character input device is provided, comprising: a character input unit for receiving input characters; a candidate list management unit for converting the input characters; a candidate list generation unit configured to generate a list of conversion candidates by converting the input characters; a candidate display unit having a standard candidate display area for displaying the list of conversion candidates; an operation detection unit for detecting movement of a separated candidate included in the list of conversion candidates; and a candidate separation management unit configured to create a separated candidate display area apart from the standard candidate display area on the display unit based on the movement of the separated candidate.
