To provide an image forming apparatus that maintains cleanability for a long period and prevents the occurrence of lubricant memory.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a photoreceptor that has a protective layer as an outermost layer; charging means that charges a surface of the photoreceptor; exposure means that exposes the photoreceptor charged by the charging means; developing means that supplies a toner to the photoreceptor exposed by the exposure means to form a toner image; transfer means that transfers the toner image formed on the photoreceptor; cleaning means that removes a toner remaining on the surface of the photoreceptor; and lubricant application means that applies a lubricant to the surface of the photoreceptor.
