To provide a hand dryer in which an operation of a motor fan unintended by an operator is prevented.SOLUTION: A hand dryer 100 comprises: a main body case 2 for forming on a lower side, a hand drying space 6 into which hands of a user are inserted from a front side; a motor fan 3 for generating a high pressure air inside of the main body case 2; a nozzle part 4 which is provided on a nozzle holding surface 8 being a lower surface of the main body case 2 and blows the high pressure air; a hand detection part 10 for detecting hands inserted into the hand drying space 6; an operation part 9 provided on the nozzle holding surface 8 and on a rear side of the hand detection part 10, for operating an operation state of the motor fan 3; an operation part cover 97 which is installed on the nozzle holding surface 8 so as to be opened/closed freely, and covers the operation part 9 when the operation part cover is closed; a cover opening/closing detection part 98 for detecting opening/closing of the operation part cover 97; and a control part 30 for controlling an operation of the motor fan 3 in conjunction with a detection result of the cover opening/closing detection part 98.
