To provide cancer therapeutic agents.SOLUTION: Provided is a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of diseases associated with unwanted cell proliferation, comprising an inhibitor of LIF expression and/or activity, the diseases associated with unwanted cell proliferation being cancers, the cancers being selected from breast, heart, lung, small intestine, colon, spleen, bladder, head, neck, ovary, brain, pancreas, skin, bone, bone marrow, blood, thymus, uterus, testis, and liver tumor. The pharmaceutical composition acts through the inhibition of the self-regeneration of tumor stem cells. The inhibitor is selected from the group consisting of siRNA, antisense oligonucleotides, specific ribozymes, antibodies, polypeptides and inhibitors of cytokine receptor binding.
