To provide an image formation device which can be handled more easily.SOLUTION: The present invention includes: an image formation transfer unit; a fixation unit; a medium detection mechanism; and a control unit. The image formation transfer unit has a first image carrier capable of carrying a first developer image, and a transfer member capable of transferring the first developer image to a medium, and conducts a state shift operation and a state maintenance operation. The fixation unit has a first fixation member and a second fixation member, can shift between a pressure state and a pressure-free state, and can fix the first developer image to the medium while carrying the medium. A medium detection mechanism detects the presence of the medium in at least one of between the first image carrier and the transfer member and between the first fixation member and the second fixation member, and issues medium detection information.
