To achieve a function to guide a recording medium from a conveyance path to an inversion path and a function to detect a position of the recording medium in the conveyance path, while preventing an increase in the number of components and manufacturing cost of an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus of the present invention comprises: a conveyance path through which a recording medium is conveyed; a switchback unit that switches back the recording medium to invert a conveyance direction D; an inversion path that inverts a front and a back of the recording medium; an inversion guide 17a that can be displaced between a first position guiding the recording medium to the switchback unit along the conveyance path and a second position guiding the recording medium in which a conveyance direction D is inverted by the switchback unit from the conveyance path to the inversion path; an actuator 18 that is displaced according to the position of the recording medium in the conveyance path; and a sensor 16 that detects the position of the recording medium in the conveyance path on the basis of a position of the actuator 18.
