To provide a honeycomb structure holding the promise of improving the purifying performance.SOLUTION: The honeycomb structure comprises a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body, the honeycomb structure body having: porous partition walls 1 arranged to surround a plurality of cells 2, which cells extend from a first end face to a second end face to form flow channels of a fluid; and an outer peripheral wall surrounding the partition walls 1. The partition walls 1 have a protrusion 21 extending into a cell 2 on each of two partition walls 1 opposed to each other across the cell 2, and the partition walls are configure such that areas S1, S2 of regions divided by a virtual line connecting the tip ends of two protrusions 21, 21 extending into the cell 2 satisfy the relationship represented by following formula (1).
