DEVICE FOR ADJUSTING OVERCASTING WIDTH AND THREAD SLACKNESS FOR SEWING MACHINE, AND SEWING MACHINE

To provide a device for adjusting an overcasting width and thread slackness for a sewing machine and a sewing machine which, when sewing is performed by overcasting, can freely adjust an overcasting width and the degree of thread tightening according to conditions such as the types of a plurality of pieces of cloth used and the types of a plurality of sewing threads used.SOLUTION: A device for adjusting an overcasting width and thread slackness for a sewing machine according to the present invention comprises: an upper knife and a lower knife which are arranged upstream of a needle location and cut the edge of workpiece cloth to be fed to the needle location; a lower knife holder which holds the lower knife and is supported so as to be movable in a direction orthogonal to the feeding direction of the workpiece cloth; an overcasting claw which sets the overcasting width by stretching and hooking of a thread on the tip part thereof during sewing in proximity to the needle location; and an overcasting claw holder which is supported by the lower knife holder and holds the overcasting claw to make it movable in the direction orthogonal to the feeding direction of the workpiece cloth. A movable part to which the lower knife holder is attached is supported so as to be openable and closable with respect to a body part.
