Zusammenfassung:To provide a light emitting device and a manufacturing method thereof that have a large contrast between a light emitting region and a non-light emitting region at the time of light emission, and in which the entire upper surface of the light emitting device at the time of non light emission becomes the color of a wavelength conversion member.SOLUTION: A light emitting device includes a light emitting element 10 having an upper surface 10a and a side surface 10c, a wavelength conversion member 20 that has an upper surface 20a, a lower surface 20b, and a side surface 20c, and in which the lower surface 20b faces the upper surface 10a of the light emitting element, a reflecting member 30 that has an upper surface 30a and covers the side surface 10c of the light emitting element and the side surface 20c of the wavelength conversion member, and a covering member 40 that covers the upper surface 20a of the wavelength conversion member and the upper surface 30a of the reflecting member, and the covering member 40 includes any one of a pigment and a dye, and the body color of the wavelength conversion member 20 and the body color of the covering member 40 are similar.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1B 【課題】発光時に発光領域と非発光領域とのコントラストが大きく、且つ、非発光時に発光装置の上面全体が波長変換部材の色彩となる発光装置及びその製造方法を提供する。【解決手段】発光装置は、上面10aと側面10cを有する発光素子10と、上面20aと下面20bと側面20cを有し、前記下面20bを前記発光素子の上面10aに対面させて設けられた波長変換部材20と、上面30aを有し、前記発光素子の側面10c及び前記波長変換部材の側面20cを被覆する反射部材30と、前記波長変換部材の上面20a及び前記反射部材の上面30aを被覆する被覆部材40と、を備え、前記被覆部材40は、顔料及び染料のいずれか1つを含有しており、前記波長変換部材20の体色と前記被覆部材40の体色は同系色である。【選択図】図1B
