Zusammenfassung:To provide an image forming apparatus that can improve the image quality of an image to be formed, by improving the accuracy in result of toner concentration detection and achieving appropriate toner supply and image density.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus (1) forming an image by using an electrophotographic system comprises: a toner concentration sensor (140); and a control unit (100) that controls the concentration of toner in a developer tank. The toner concentration sensor (140) includes an IC memory (144), detects an empty state inside the developer tank while a developer is not introduced into the developer tank and detects the concentration of toner inside the developer tank while the developer is present inside the developer tank, and outputs a result of detection performed by the toner concentration sensor (140) as a frequency. The IC memory (144) stores the result of detection performed by the toner concentration sensor (140) as a frequency output value. The control unit (100) varies a registration value abnormal range for determining whether to register a toner concentration reference value by using the frequency output value while the developer is not introduced into the developer tank.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】トナー濃度の検出結果の精度を向上させ、適切なトナーの補給や画像濃度を実現して形成される画像の画質を向上できる画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】電子写真方式を用いて画像を形成する画像形成装置(1)において、トナー濃度センサ(140)と、現像槽内のトナー濃度を制御する制御部(100)とを備え、トナー濃度センサ(140)は、ICメモリ(144)を備え、現像剤未投入時の現像槽内の空状態を検出するとともに、現像剤が存在する現像槽内のトナー濃度を検出して、トナー濃度センサ(140)の検出結果を周波数として出力し、ICメモリ(144)は、トナー濃度センサ(140)の検出結果を周波数出力値として記憶し、制御部(100)は、現像剤未投入時の周波数出力値を用いて、トナー濃度基準値を登録するか否かを判断するための登録値異常範囲を可変させることを特徴とする。【選択図】図1
