ELECTRONIC KEY SYSTEM FOR VEHICLE

To provide an electronic key system for a vehicle, capable of restricting a possibility that authentication of a portable unit is illegally established.SOLUTION: An electronic key system for a vehicle includes: an on-vehicle system 100 mounted on a vehicle; and a portable unit 200 to be carried by a user. The on-vehicle system 100 and the portable unit 200 are respectively constituted to perform predetermined vehicle control on the basis of a result of authentication processing by radio communication. When a response signal is transmitted with respect to an LF signal from the on-vehicle system 100, the portable unit 200 returns the signal at an output level corresponding to the received LF signal. Thus, a response signal is restricted from being returned at an excessive (i.e., useless) intensity with respect to a largeness of a vehicle communication area.
