To make it possible to easily separate a cap from a discharge port surface.SOLUTION: An ink jet recording device comprises: a recording head having a discharge port surface on which discharge ports for discharging an ink are arranged; a cap unit which is movable between a capping position at which the cap unit covers the discharge port surface and a retreat position at which the cap unit does not cover the discharge port surface; a cam mechanism for moving the cap unit; a lifting component which contacts the cam mechanism, thereby causing the cam mechanism to perform a separation operation for moving the cap unit from the capping position to the retreat position; and an auxiliary surface for assisting the separation operation.
