SLIDE MEMBER FOR MECHANICAL SEAL

To enable an abrasion powder transfer film adhering to a slide surface to be parted in a slide direction of the slide surface, and thus prevent or reduce occurrence of a failure due to formation of the abrasion powder transfer film.SOLUTION: A slide member for a mechanical seal having a slide surface 21 exerting seal action is characterized in that a recess part 31 is provided on the slide surface 21, where the recess part extends in a direction orthogonal to a slide direction x in order to part an abrasion powder transfer flim in the slide direction x of the slide surface 21, where the abrasion powder transfer film adheres to the slide surface 21. The recess part 31 is formed into such a bottom shape that a longitudinal end part of the recess part 31 does not reach an end part of the slide member so that sealed fluid is prevented from leaking through the recess part 31.
