SHAFT SEALING DEVICE AND SHAFT SEALING METHOD

To suppress leakage of seal water to the outside by maintaining a valuable concentration in a slurry liquid component without performing excessive drainage processing when injecting the seal water into a shaft sealing part of a pump.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a shaft sealing device 100 configured to perform shaft sealing by injecting seal water into a shaft sealing part 102 of a pump in which a slurry is fed in a wet type refining process. The shaft sealing device comprises: a sleeve 106 which is wound around a shaft 104 of the pump; an expeller 108 which is pivoted on the shaft, and a cover member 110 which covers a part of the sleeve; multiple stages of oil seals 112 closing a clearance between a cylindrical part 110a of the cover member and the sleeve; and a lantern ring 114 provided inside of an injection port 110c which is formed at a proximal end side of the cylindrical part and through which the seal water is injected, for adjusting the quantity of seal water to be injected.
