Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet high in flexural strength, and a rotary machine including the permanent magnet.SOLUTION: A permanent magnet 10 comprises: primary-phase grains 11 including a rare earth element R, a transition metal element T and a boron B; and grain boundary phases 9 located among the primary-phase grains 11, wherein R includes at least Nd and Ce; and T includes at least Fe. A total R content in the permanent magnet 10 is [R] atom%, a total T content in the permanent magnet 10 is [T] atom%, a B content in the permanent magnet 10 is [B]atom%, and a Ce content in the permanent magnet 10 is [Ce]atom%, [Ce]/[R] is 0.1-0.6, and [T]/[B] is 14-18. The grain boundary phases 9 comprise R-T phases 3 including an intermetallic compound of R and T. When the area of a unit section of the permanent magnet 10 is A, and the area of the R-T phases 3 in the unit section is Ain total, A/Ais 0.05-0.5.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
