Zusammenfassung:To provide a method for production of a carbon material without decreasing carbonization yield.SOLUTION: The production method of a carbon material contains a carbonization treatment step of heating an organic polymeric substance up to higher than 400°C (excluding a case of heating up to higher than 1600°C) in a non-oxidation atmosphere containing a gaseous substance (A) comprising at least one of acethylene and an acetylene derivative (however, in a case where the organic polymeric substance is a flame-resistant fiber obtained by heating a precursor fiber derived from an acrylonitrile-based polymer in the air, if the flame-resistant fiber is heated up to higher than 400°C in a non-oxidation atmosphere containing the gaseous substance (A), followed by further heating at 1000°C or higher in a nitrogen atmosphere, excluding a case of obtaining a carbon material with carbonization yield lower than or the same as the case of conducting carbonization treatment by heating the flame-resistant fiber under the same condition except for heating the flame-resistant fiber in a non-oxidation atmosphere which is the non-oxidation atmosphere with the gaseous substance (A) only being removed).SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】炭素化収率を低下させることなく効率的に炭素材料を製造する方法の提供。【解決手段】アセチレンおよびアセチレン誘導体の少なくとも一方からなるガス状物質(A)を含む非酸化性雰囲気中で、有機系高分子物質を400℃超に加熱して炭素化処理する工程(ただし、1600℃以上に加熱する場合を除く。)を含む炭素材料の製造方法(ただし、有機系高分子物質がアクリロニトリル系重合体からなる前駆体繊維を空気中で加熱して得られる耐炎化繊維である場合において、前記ガス状物質(A)を含む非酸化性雰囲気中で耐炎化繊維を400℃超に加熱した後に、窒素雰囲気中で1000℃以上にさらに加熱するときには、前記非酸化性雰囲気から前記ガス状物質(A)のみを除いた非酸化性雰囲気中で耐炎化繊維を加熱して炭素化処理する以外は同一条件で耐炎化繊維を加熱して炭素化処理する場合よりも、低いか同じ炭素化収率で炭素材料を得る場合を除く。)。【選択図】なし
