To provide an olefinic resin that can improve the affinity between a carbon-based filler and a matrix resin, in a carbon-based filler-olefinic resin containing composite material, and a composite material containing the olefinic resin.SOLUTION: An olefinic resin for composite material is an olefinic random copolymer that contains 2.5 mol% or more and 10 mol% or less of a structural unit derived from an aliphatic α-olefin monomer having an aryl group with 4 or more and 20 or less carbon atoms, where the weight average molecular weight measured by GPC is 20,000 or more and 200,000 or less.
