Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition which satisfies at least one characteristic in characteristics such as a high upper limit temperature, a low lower limit temperature, small viscosity, appropriate optical anisotropy, and large dielectric anisotropy, or has an appropriate balance on at least two characteristics, and to provide an AM element containing the this composition.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal composition contains a specific compound having a large negative dielectric anisotropy as a first component and a specific compound having a negative dielectric anisotropy as a second component, and may contain a specific compound having a negative dielectric anisotropy and a high upper limit temperature as a third component, a specific compound having an upper limit temperature or adjusting viscosity as a fourth component, or a specific compound having a polymerizable group as an additive component.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】高い上限温度、低い下限温度、小さな粘度、適切な光学異方性、大きな誘電率異方性などの特性において、少なくとも１つの特性を充足する、または少なくとも２つの特性に関して適切なバランスを有する液晶組成物、およびこの組成物を含むＡＭ素子を提供する。【解決手段】第一成分として負に大きな誘電率異方性を有する特定の化合物、第二成分として負の誘電率異方性を有する特定の化合物を含有し、第三成分として負の誘電率異方性および高い上限温度を有する特定の化合物、第四成分として上限温度または粘度の調整を行う特定の化合物、または添加物成分として重合性基を有する特定の化合物を含有してもよい液晶組成物である。【選択図】なし
