FIXING DEVICE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS HAVING THE FIXING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which is capable of detecting damage to a cylindrical rotating body having conductivity without deteriorating the service life of the rotating body.SOLUTION: A fixing device for fixing an image T formed on a recording medium P on to the recording medium comprises: a cylindrical rotating body 202 having conductivity; a coil 1 installed so as to face the rotating body; excitation means 7 for exciting the coil so as to electromagnetically couple the rotating body with the coil; first detection means 8 for detecting the current that flows in the coil; and second detection means 9 which, when the rotating body is rotated, detects a change in the current when a damaged portion of the rotating body moves from an area not facing the coil to an area facing the coil.
