PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device with an overlay mechanism, system comprising devices, each having an overlay mechanism with an individually programmable delay, or method of overlaying data.SOLUTION: A device 1 has: an overlay mechanism 4 configured to redirect an access directed to a first memory location 5, 10 to a second memory location 7, 11. The overlay mechanism 4 is configured to delay access to the second memory location 7, 11 in the case of a redirection.
