The system and method according to the invention automates the dialysis treatment in which dialysate is provided to a patient and spent dialysate is discharged from the patient. The system and method according to the invention can perform various types of dialysis treatment. One example of dialysis treatment performable according to the invention includes the automation of fill, dwell, and drain cycles of the dialysate performed by the patient.
