PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately control execution and suppression of periodic performance maintenance operation, in consideration of an influence on an image reading operation.SOLUTION: A recording device has: reading means for performing a reading operation of an image on a document; recording means for performing a recording operation by a recording head; control means for controlling a performance maintenance operation composing of a plurality of operation patterns, to the recording head; holding means for holding information indicating which one of the plurality of operation patterns performs the performance maintaining operation when the performance maintaining operation is carried out; and time measuring means for measuring an elapsed time after the recording operation is performed by the recording means. The control means causes the performance maintaining operation to be performed in any one of the plurality of operation patterns in accordance with the elapsed time and the information.
