OPTICAL DEVICE AND PROJECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device that can be easily manufactured and radiates heat of an inorganic polarizing plate.SOLUTION: An optical device includes a first optical modulator modulating a first color beam, a second optical modulator modulating a second color beam, and a color synthesizing optical unit for synthesizing the color beams individually modulated by the first optical modulator and the second optical modulator. The optical device further includes an exit side polarizing plate 42M disposed at a light exit side of the first optical modulator, a transparent substrate 43 being laminated on the exit side polarizing plate 42M and transmitting light, a support part 7 supporting the first optical modulator and being attached to the color synthesizing optical unit, and a holding part 8 holding the exit side polarizing plate 42M and the transparent substrate 43 together with the support part 7. The holding part 8 has a bent part 85 engaging with the support part 7 and a biasing part 86 biasing the exit side polarizing plate 42M toward the transparent substrate 43 by engagement of the bent part 85 with the support part 7.
