PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide agents for treating cancer.SOLUTION: The present invention provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising: soluble variant activin IIB receptor polypeptides and variant activin IIB receptor proteins capable of binding and inhibiting the activities of activin A, myostatin, or GDF-11; and chemotherapeutic agents including 5-fluorouracil (5-FU).
