PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit, when a tension member is ruptured, exposure of the ruptured portion to an outside.SOLUTION: A handrail 1 for a passenger conveyor comprises: a decorative surface layer 2 made of an elastomer and extending along the direction of travel of the passenger conveyor; and a tension member 4 embedded in the decorative surface layer 2 and made of a belt-like steel plate extending along the longitudinal direction of the decorative surface layer 2. The tension member 4 is provided with a plurality of through holes 41 over the whole in the longitudinal direction, and the through holes 41 are filled with the elastomer constituting the decorative surface layer 2, which is united with the elastomer constituting the decorative surface layer 2.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 【課題】抗張体が断裂した場合に、その断裂部分が外部に露出してしまうことを抑制する。【解決手段】 乗客コンベア用のハンドレール１であって、エラストマーにて形成され、乗客コンベアの移動方向に沿って延設された化粧層２と、化粧層２に埋設され該化粧層２の長手方向に沿って延びる帯状の鋼板にて形成された抗張体４とを備える。抗張体４は、長手方向の全体に渡って複数の貫通孔４１が設けられ、その貫通孔４１には、化粧層２を構成するエラストマーが充填され、化粧層２を構成するエラストマーと一体化されている。【選択図】図２
