PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detecting device and an abnormality detecting method for a safety device of a passenger conveyor, which can inspect and adjust a position of a safety switch without detaching a driving chain from a sprocket and inspect an operation state of a link mechanism.SOLUTION: An abnormality detecting device 16 for a safety device detects an abnormal state of the safety device of a passenger conveyor 100, and the abnormality detecting device 16 for a safety device comprises: an insertion portion 19 which is inserted into insertion holes 34 and 36 as link supporting points of a link mechanism 30 and temporarily fastens the link mechanism 30; a bolt head 18 arranged at one end of the insertion portion 19; and a link stopper portion 17 provided in the bolt head 18.
