Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guide plate suitable for guiding visible light for backlighting of a liquid crystal display.SOLUTION: A light guide plate 1 is made of glass and has two parallel lateral faces 10, 11 and at least one edge face 13 preferably used for light input face. The glass for the light guide plate contains BOand SiOas components, in a total content percentage of at least 70 mass%, preferably at least 80 mass% and more advantageously at least 90 mass% and a content percentage of BOof over 10%, and contains metal oxides of divalent metals in a total content percentage of less than 3 mass% and AlOby 1 to 5 mass%.
