PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery that has high reliability even under high-temperature environment.SOLUTION: Electrolytic solution for a battery includes nonaqueous solvent and alkali metal salt dissolved in the nonaqueous solvent. The nonaqueous solvent includes chain carboxylic acid ester represented by the formula (1). The battery includes the electrolytic solution for a battery, a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material capable of occluding and discharging alkali metal ions, and a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material capable of occluding and discharging alkali metal ions or alkali metal. The rate of the chain carboxylic acid ester to the total volume of the nonaqueous solvent is equal to 1 vol% or more.
