Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type encoder capable of detecting both of a traveling amount and a traveling direction by a single light source, and being high in reliability due to a simple structure and easily downsized.SOLUTION: The entire reflection type encoder can be downsized while highly maintaining the reliability and accuracy of the encoder by setting the light path length of reference light of the reflection type encoder having an interference optical system sandwiched between a diffraction grating 4 provided in a rotor or a linear scale 9, and a laser oscillator 1 and light receivers 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d to 4 mm or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】単一光源によって移動量と移動方向との双方を検出可能で、簡単な構造により信頼性が高く、小型化が容易な反射型エンコーダを提供する。【解決手段】ロータ又はリニアスケール9に設けた回折格子4と、レーザー発振器1及び受光部7a、7b、7c、7dと、の間に干渉光学系を挟んだ反射型エンコーダの参照光について、光路長を4mm以下に設定することによって、反射型エンコーダの信頼性及び精度を高く維持したまま、エンコーダ全体を小型化することができる。【選択図】図1
