PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas processing base material provided in an exhaust gas system of an internal combusTion engine, a system and a method of including this exhaust gas processing base material.SOLUTION: A cataLyst base material is an exhaust gas processing structure having a flowing characteristic being many in an exhaust gas flow of flowing in a central area 2 by comparing with an outside peripheral area 4 when constituting the outside peripheral area 4. The outside peripheral area 4 is the exhaust gas processing structure having a trapping substance or an adsorption substance on a surface of its flow passage, having the longer axial length than an inside area 2 or being narrower in an opening part 14 of the flow passage than the inside area 2. A protective film of including the trapping substance such as a hydrocarbon trap is coated on an inlet end 12.
