Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide nanocomposite materials comprising, as main constituents, starch and clay that has a high degree of exfoliation, the nanocomposite materials having properties including a high degree of transparency, improved mechanical and rheological properties, reduced rates of moisture uptake and/or loss, and reduced sensitivity to moisture, and being suitable for use as packaging materials.SOLUTION: The invention provides a substantially exfoliated nanocomposite material including starch, hydrophobically modified layered silicate clay, and water of 5 wt.% to 30 wt.% based on the weight of the nanocomposite material.
