PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy both improvement of usability and ensuring of security in inputting a password.SOLUTION: A password input device comprises: selection candidate data storage control means for creating selection candidate data including dummy characters by each character constituting the password in registering a password with an authentication device, and storing the data into a storage part; selection candidate display control means for referring to the selection candidate data stored in the storage part, and sequentially displaying selection candidates including characters constituting the password and dummy characters on the display part in a character order constituting the password; character selection means, in response to a user operation, for sequentially selecting one character from the selection candidates which are sequentially displayed on the display part in a character order constituting the password; and character string output means for transmitting characters sequentially selected by the character selection means as a character string to the authentication device. 【課題】パスワードを入力する際のユーザビリティの向上とセキュリティの確保を両立させること。【課題を解決するための手段】パスワード入力装置は、認証装置にパスワードを登録する際に、当該パスワードを構成する各文字毎にダミー文字を含む選択候補データを作成して記憶部に記憶する選択候補データ記憶制御手段と、前記記憶部に記憶された選択候補データを参照して、前記パスワードを構成する文字順に、前記パスワードを構成する文字とダミー文字を含む選択候補を、前記表示部に順次表示する選択候補表示制御手段と、ユーザ操作に応答して、前記表示部に前記パスワードを構成する文字順に順次表示される選択候補から１つの文字を順次選択する文字選択手段と、前記文字選択手段で順次選択された文字を文字列として前記認証装置に送信する文字列出力手段と、を備えている。【選択図】図１
