Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition that can suppress irregular film thickness and control a tilt angle, a retardation plate having an optical anisotropic layer formed by using the above composition, an image display device, and a method for manufacturing a retardation plate.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises a rod-like liquid crystalline compound having a polymerizable group and an air-interface aligning agent. The air-interface aligning agent comprises a fluorine-based polymer (X) having a structural unit represented by formula (A) below and a fluorine-based polymer (Y) having a polar group and no structural unit represented by formula (A). In formula (A), Mp represents a trivalent group constituting a part of a polymer chain; L represents a single bond or a divalent connecting group; and X represents a substituted or unsubstituted condensed cyclic functional group. 【課題】本発明は、膜厚ムラを抑制し、チルト角を制御することができる液晶組成物、ならびにそれを用いて形成した光学異方性層を有する位相差板、画像表示装置および位相差板の製造方法を提供することを課題とする。【解決手段】重合性基を有する棒状液晶性化合物と、空気界面配向剤と、を含有する液晶組成物であって、空気界面配向剤が、下記式(A)で表される構成単位を有するフッ素系ポリマー(X)と、下記式(A)で表される構成単位を有さず、極性基を有するフッ素系ポリマー(Y)とを含む、液晶組成物。(式(A)中、Mpはポリマー主鎖の一部を構成する3価の基を表し、Lは単結合または2価の連結基を表し、Xは置換または無置換の縮合環官能基を表す。)【選択図】なし
