Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of preventing or treating diseases or disorders caused by biological agents or chemical agents in a subject (e.g., a mammal, such as a human) by administering genetically modified human umbilical cord perivascular cells.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method for protecting the subject against challenge from the biological or chemical agents, wherein the method comprises administering a human umbilical cord perivascular cell (HUCPVC) that has been genetically modified to increase the expression of an oligonucleotide or a polypeptide in the HUCPVC relative to a HUCPVC that has not been genetically modified, and the HUCPVC protects the subject from the biological or chemical agents.
