PUMPS AND PUMP-HEAD COMPRISING INTERNAL PRESSURE-ABSORBING MEMBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To meet a need for pumps that exhibit reduced pressure pulsatility of the output stream of liquid that has been pumped.SOLUTION: A pump includes a pump housing 28 defining a pump cavity 38, a movable pumping member 34, 36 situated in the pump cavity 38, and at least one pressure-absorbing member 56 located inside the pump housing 28. The housing 28 also has an inlet and an outlet, and includes at least one interior non-wearing location that contacts liquid in the pump housing 28 when the pump housing 28 is primed with the liquid. The at least one pressure-absorbing member 56 is located inside the pump housing 28 at the non-wearing location and contacts the liquid. The pressure-absorbing member 56 has a compliant property to exhibit a volumetric compression when subjected to a pressure increase in the liquid contacting the pressure-absorbing member 56.
