PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination optical system, an image display device and a production method of the same, and an illumination position adjustment method with which the position of illumination light can be accurately adjusted relative to image forming means.SOLUTION: An illumination optical system includes: a first optical system including a light source, and a first light guide member that reflects incident light from the light source multiple times and emits the reflected light; a second optical system including a second light guide member that guides the light from the first optical system to illuminate image forming means; a first base on which the light source and first light guide member are disposed; and a second base on which optical components constituting the second optical system are disposed.
