IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to detect rotation fluctuation of an image holding body and an endless belt member with a simple configuration, to prevent image quality degradation.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a photoreceptor drum 11 rotating with a toner image held thereon; an intermediate transfer belt 21 to which the toner image is to be transferred from the photoreceptor drum 11; and a primary transfer roll 15 which comes into contact with a peripheral surface of the photoreceptor drum 11 via the intermediate transfer belt 21, to transfer the toner image held on the peripheral surface of the photoreceptor drum 11 to the intermediate transfer belt 21. The amount of displacement of the primary transfer roll 15 which is displaced due to eccentricity of the photoreceptor drum 11 or changes in thickness of the intermediate transfer belt 21 along a direction close to or away from the intermediate transfer belt 21 is detected by a rotary encoder mounted on a support member 60 supporting the primary transfer roll 15. On the basis of the amount of displacement of the primary transfer roll 15 detected by the rotary encoder, drive of the photoreceptor drum 11 is corrected. 【課題】像保持体及び無端状ベルト部材の回転変動を簡素な構成により検出して画質低下が生じるのを抑制することが可能な画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】トナー像を保持して回転する感光体ドラム１１と、感光体ドラム１１からトナー像が転写される中間転写ベルト２１と、中間転写ベルト２１を介して感光体ドラム１１の周面と接触し、感光体ドラム１１の周面に保持されるトナー像を中間転写ベルト２１に転写する一次転写ロール１５を備える。そして、感光体ドラム１１の偏心や中間転写ベルト２１の厚さの変動などに起因した一次転写ロール１５が中間転写ベルト２１に対して接離する方向に沿って変位する変位量を、一次転写ロール１５を支持する支持部材６０に取り付けられたロータリーエンコーダによって検出し、ロータリーエンコーダによって検出された一次転写ロール１５に基づいて感光体ドラム１１の駆動を補正する。【選択図】図３
