WATER-ABSORBING POLYMER STRUCTURE WITH HIGH AMMONIA-BINDING CAPACITY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide water-absorbing polymer structures which are capable of suppressing the escape of unpleasantly smelling compounds from hygiene articles and nevertheless have satisfactory absorption properties.SOLUTION: In one embodiment, a method for the production of a water-absorbing polymer structure is provided which comprises the steps of: 1) providing an untreated water-absorbing polymer structure having a degree of neutralization of at most 70 mol %; and 2) bringing the untreated water-absorbing polymer structure into contact with an acidic component, wherein the untreated water-absorbing polymer structure provided in the step 1) is post-crosslinked on the surface. In another embodiment, a method for the production of a water-absorbing polymer structure is provided in which the water-absorbing polymer structure in the above method is additionally brought into contact with an inorganic component.
