Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video and audio communication system that gives sensation like different households having communication between adjacent rooms separated by a room door in the same residence.SOLUTION: Video and audio are transmitted and received bi-directionally between a video and audio communication device 100 at a parent household side and a video and audio communication device 100 at a child household side. The video and audio communication device 100 comprises a microphone 1, speakers 16, a camera 2, a display 15, and a room door state detection unit 21 for detecting opening and closing of a room door 30A placed in front of the display 15. In a state in which the room door 30A is closed and the display 15 is hidden, transmission of video and audio is stopped, and in a state in which the room door 30A is open and the display 15 is exposed, at least one of video and audio is transmitted.
