PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To register authentication results of various authentication sequences with a switch.SOLUTION: An authentication method is for providing a network authentication function in an authentication system comprising an authentication server which authenticates a terminal used by a user and a switch which mediates an authentication sequence between the terminal and the authentication server. The switch provides the authentication server with identification information for identifying the switch in the authentication sequence. The authentication server authenticates an authentication request transmitted from the terminal, and transmits the authentication result to the switch on the basis of the provided identification information of the switch. The switch authenticates access from the terminal on the basis of the authentication result received from the authentication server.
