Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device with improved visibility.SOLUTION: An image display device includes: (1) a white light source 2 having a continuous emission spectrum; (2) an image display cell 4; (3) a polarizer 8 placed closer to a viewing side than the image display cell; and (4) at least two sheets of base films 11a and 12a in which transparent conductive layers 11b and 12b are laminated. The at least two sheets of base films are oriented films, and one of the at least two sheets of base films is a high retardation base film having 3000 to 150000 nm retardation. The high retardation base film is placed closer to the viewing side than at least one of remaining base film(s) (light source side base film).
